Whiting usually have a machine-gun bite - a quick succession of nibbles. Try to sense the "pull" and strike then.

things i have read say that you should never go above a no.1 hook, but i have been catching fish well below legal size on 1/0s. These hooks have been absolutely smashed by the fish, and end up nearly impossible to get out. They seem to quite like squid baits, especially if it has been baited like a worm, wrapped around the hook. I fish on Brisbane Water, NSW

I do a lot of fishing for whiting, flathead and bream. I think the best place in NSW is bundeena: Bonnie Vale. Just recently i caught a 35cm sand whiting and my little brother pulled in a 40cm whiting as well

Whiting are fun to catch. Easy for the family and found almost everywhere in Australian saltwater. I fish up in Harvey Bay QLD and around that area. You catch whiting, bream and flathead when you beach fish or walk out about 500m. Best bait is sandworm i reckon. Though on the beach sometimes yabbies are the go. Use a light line, small sinker and 1 inch hook. Look for passages in the water, canal and sand banks. You'll find flatheads go a little deeper water than whiting, but either way have fun fishing!
